Visual Media (including Media & Visual Arts)
Visual Media offers a new body of analytic practice that is purposively tilted towards the focussed
study of contextual and theoretic links in visual cultures. The broad aims of the Visual Media program
of study are based upon the sustaining and essential links that exist between artistic practice and artistic
theory and the expository links that are formed by theoretical constructs, especially when they become
embodied in artistic activity. Thinking and doing are necessarily connected and Visual Media graduates are
educated to see motivating and causal links in interrelated ways. The Visual Media programs embody educational
rationales and academic aims that place it squarely within the University of Melbourne developments in artistic
theory and its application, arts research, postgraduate study, publications, consultations, conferences,
external lectures, new interdisciplinary links and the critical and contextual analysis of the Arts.
