Jack Hibberd's play 'White With Wire Wheels',
directed by David Kendall, was first produced at the University of Melbourne
in 1967. This seminal work heralded the emergence of a 'new wave' of Australian
writers, actors and directors.
In 2007 the University of Melbourne, in conjunction with Melbourne University
Student Union Ltd. and the Theatre Board, will be presenting a 40th anniversary
production of 'White With Wire Wheels,' directed by Susie Dee at Union
House Theatre, Wednesday 26th - Sunday 30th September.
This anniversary production will be supported by a two-day symposium,
'Enter the New Wave,' to reflect this dynamic and revolutionary period
in Australia's theatre history.
Guest speakers will include: Graeme Blundell, Betty Burstall,
Max Gillies, Jack Hibberd, Liz Jones, Sue Ingleton, Aubrey Mellor and
John Romeril.
