Welcome to the SCADr Angela O'Brien - Creative Arts Welcome to Creative Arts. The school was established in 1994 with a Bachelor of Creative Arts program and now has a range of graduate and postgraduate courses available. I hope the information in this site is of use and welcome feedback on how we can improve this service. The Clever Country in ActionThe School of Creative Arts offers a range of programs Our aim is to educate about the arts and through the arts rather than train artists for specific occupational outcomes. We have a commitment to the idea that all artists, whatever their communicative medium, engage in similar philosophical and cognitive processes in reflecting, shaping and defining their own lives and the life of our culture. Our belief is that a liberal arts course in creative arts disciplines extends a student's capacity to reassert and organise ideas, to manipulate source material, to reason both inductively and deductively, to think laterally and to translate and communicate ideas through drama, literature, the visual arts and electronic media. Learning through the arts engages the intellect, the emotions the body and the spirit - it is the Clever Country in Action. We believe our graduates will enter a wide range of occupational fields, including government and business, where skills in research, analysis and synthesis are at a premium. We also believe our graduates will be cultural change agents in twenty-first century Australia. Our teaching strategies involve a combination of educational skills of professional art academics with the professional know-how of practicing artists. In most subject areas, our in-house staff ensure that programs are educationally sound and socially equitable. Guest lecturers offer the students an opportunity to meet the professionals, who in most instances, demystify the process of art-making, underscoring perspiration rather than inspiration.
